Living with an Eye Stroke | Fred’s Story

A documentary portrait about life after an eye stroke and learning to adapt to limited vision.

Episode

Fred is retired and enjoys spending time volunteering, walking the dog and travelling with his camper. A few years ago his vision suddenly changed when he suffered an eye stroke.

Since then his sight has become blurred and parts of his visual field have disappeared. Everyday tasks such as driving, reading or working with small objects require more concentration and adjustment.

Fred actively searched for ways to adapt. With support from specialists and training from a driving instructor he learned how to continue many of the activities he enjoys.

His story shows how practical solutions and determination can help rebuild confidence after sudden vision loss.

Format

This film is part of a series of documentary portraits produced for Oog in Oog, a Dutch association supporting people who have lost an eye or live with an eye condition.

Each film follows one person and explores how losing an eye or living with limited vision affects everyday life. The portraits focus on personal experiences, medical journeys and the emotional impact of adapting to a new reality.

Together the stories reveal the diversity of causes and experiences behind life with one eye, while showing how people find their own ways to adapt and move forward.
